Whitby Basement Project with Sauna and Kitchen
900 Sq Ft Basement Renovation in Whitby, ON
This 900 sq ft basement renovation in Whitby, ON was designed to create a clean, functional, and modern living space for the homeowners. The goal was to turn an unfinished basement into a fully usable area that can be used by the clients parents to live in. We focused on maximizing the layout while keeping the design simple and functional. We initially had to reroute some HVAC duct work to make the area more functional.
From the moment you walk down the custom oak staircase, you can see the attention to detail and quality finishes throughout the space. The project includes a full kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, gym area, and even a sauna, making it a complete secondary living space.
Ikea Kitchen
The kitchen was built using IKEA cabinetry, customized to fit the layout perfectly. It features quartz countertops with a clean veining pattern, paired with a modern backsplash. A custom oak LED shelf was installed above the counter for more storage as the ceiling height did not allow us to add upper cabinets.
The open concept layout allows the kitchen to flow into the main living area, making the basement feel much bigger then it actually is. Pot lights were installed throughout to ensure the entire space is well lit at all.
Bathroom and sauna
The 3-piece bathroom includes a custom glass shower with black hardware, large format tiles, and a detailed shower base. The vanity is finished with quartz countertops and paired with a large mirror and clean lighting.
A prefabricated sauna was also installed, giving the homeowners a spa-like feature right in their own home.
Flooring and painting
We installed Dricore subfloors throughout the basement to ensure proper insulation and moisture protection. On top of that, luxury vinyl flooring was used for durability and a consistent, warm look across the entire basement.
The custom oak steps and matching handrail provide a seamless transition from the main floor to the basement. Premium Benjamin Moore paints were used on all walls and ceilings.
This basement also includes one bedroom and a dedicated gym area, giving the homeowners flexibility in how they use the space. The layout was carefully planned so each area feels separate, but still connected.
Overall, this project turned out very clean and functional, and the clients was extremely happy with the final results.
